Dressage Writing

This role involves:

Essential to the running of our Unaffiliated and Affiliated Dressage, our dressage writers sit with the judges and are responsible for taking down the comments and the marks given by the judge for each test. For those wishing to improve their dressage scores, writing gives a fantastic insight to what a dressage judge is looking for. Dressage writers are usually given a 4 hour slot, so it’s great if you’ve only got limited time. Neat handwriting a definite advantage! This is a great way for dressage enthusiast to understand how a judge sees a dressage test and where points are awarded. A basic understanding of dressage is required for this role.

Score Collector

This role involves:

Our score collectors are responsible for collecting the scores from the judges and bringing them back to the scoring cabin on a regular basis throughout the day. This role would suit: Someone with young legs, plenty of energy and lots of enthusiasm. This is a great way for our younger volunteers to get involved and learn more about how an event is run. Equestrian knowledge is not essential for this role. Scoring Scorers are responsible for adding up totals on dressage sheets This role would suit: Someone with an eye for detail and good adding up skills. Equestrian knowledge is not essential for this role, full training will be given.

Dressage Steward

This role involves:

Our Dressage Stewards ensure the smooth running of our dressage arenas. A Dressage Steward’s role involves checking competitors in for their class, encouraging and interacting with competitors, some elements of tack checking, and delivering competitors to their test as per the running order. This role would suit: Someone who is friendly, helpful and enjoys chatting to the competitors and putting them at ease. Some knowledge of correct tack would be helpful. If you’re organised and like to be part of the action then this could be a great role for you.

Show Jumping Collecting Ring Steward

This role involves:

The Stewarding role is similar to the Dressage Steward but sometimes the running order can change. Most Stewards use a whiteboard where competitors can put their number down, so they run in order. Breaks are scheduled in for competitor course walking and for changes to the course between classes. This role will require a confident person, with good organisational and people skills.
